Title: How to Speak Dragonese (How to Train Your Dragon, Book 3)
Author: Cressida Cowell
Format: Audible Audio Book
Listening Length: 3 hours and 12 minutes
Narrator: David Tennant
Publisher’s Summary: Toothless has been captured, the nanodragon is about to be gobbled and sharkworms are on the loose. Once again we are relying on Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III to be a hero.
Grimbeard the Ghastly Treasure: I’m noticing a theme here… as Hiccup learns to become a true leader and hero, he’s also encountering items from Grimbeard the Ghastly. Last book was his sword, and this time it’s his shield. I wonder what’s next?
Alvin the Treacherous: This villain is back again, posing as a Prefect in the Roman Legion after being disowned by the Outcast tribe for being hairless (a side-effect of encountering a poison inside a dragon’s stomach.)
Camicazi: David Tennant’s voice for her is probably my least favorite voice, but she’s a pretty awesome character. I wonder if she might become a bit of a love interest in the future for Hiccup? You have to love her she’s always saying something about how girls rule or about how you’re not bad at that for a boy. LOL
Morals to Live By: Never judge a someone, a something, or an action by how small it may appear to be. It can be more useful, valid, and valuable than you know. Especially if you combine it with several small somethings and work together.
Name Calling: The usually fun name-calling in this book got a little mean in describing a Roman Consul, not that the Roman had much going for him, he wasn’t that nice either. (He terrorized dragons and like other Romans ate them and indulged in greedy/gross habits to keep eating them.) But, since the dragon who was doing the name-calling is part of the moral lesson I especially didn’t like it. I don’t believe it’s meant to be a lesser of two evils setup, but if it was, I’d choose a third.
Narrator Review: David Tennant as per usual is fabulous. The music in the audio production seems more on par to the level of his voice. I didn’t have to change the volume as much. Thank goodness.
