Summary: Bloody Valentine is composed of (3) short tales in one package.

The first, “Just Another Night in Suck City,” features Oliver and his encounter with a witch (incidentally introducing a main character, Freya, from Melissa’s new series called The Beauchamp Family which opens with Witches of East End.) Freya can cure any heartache and heals Oliver of his unrequited misery overnight.

Next is “Always Something There to Remind Me” about Allegra. Her real name is Gabrielle, as in the archangel from the Bible, and she’s the bond mate to Charles Force (aka archangel Michael). Except Allegra doesn’t love Charles anymore. She’s drawn to another… a mortal boy.

Last is the “Ring of Fire,” where Venators try to trap Jack using Schuyler’s love to curse him and bind him in human form. Can the two escape the fate that awaits them? Or will they die/get captured before they bond?

  • The section “Ring of Fire.” Specifically…
  • Schuyler sewing her own dress. It was cutely done.
  • Jack and Schuyler working together to break the curse that bound Jack.

Toss Up:

  • I’m not completely convinced with the deux es machina Melissa pulls using Freya to be an automatic cure for Oliver’s heartache. It was more of a stunt to introduce her new series. I do however like that Oliver isn’t going to be a problem in the future by being whiny and won’t whinging constantly about his feelings for Schuyler. That’s a big plus. I couldn’t handle another Jacob Black (Twilight Series)

  • “Always Something There to Remind Me” about Allegra. Does anyone really care? Seriously. Though I guess I liked her mortal guy, Bendix, with whom she had Schuyler.
  • How come Oliver and Bliss could be at the bonding ceremony? Wouldn’t they have been followed? By more than just Venators?
  • More time should have been spent on the bonding ceremony. I thought it was pretty lame/tame compared to what was alluded to in the rest of the series.
